I honestly could not wait to head to the pumpkin patch this year. It’s one of those things that so far since we’ve been married, we’ve adapted as a tradition in our household every year. There are quite a few pumpkin patches in our area, but we like the drive over the border into Maryland because this place has some of the best apple cider donuts and cider-flavored items we’ve ever tasted.
This year was no different as we fulfilled our annual tradition of heading to Maryland to take in all the orchard has to offer.
One day after our morning responsibilities were finished, we hopped in the car and drove over the border to visit one of the most popular orchards in the area. We usually go to view the pumpkins, grab our favorite seasonal treats from the country store and enjoy some delicious cider donuts. I was really pumped to be able to have my first cider donut and apple cider of the season. September is usually a busy month for us, so we normally save our fall activities for October and November.
When you first arrive, you’re immediately greeted by the smell of warm, cinnamon pastries and apples. Depending on where you park, you’re safely escorted across the street to the main strip with the orchard’s store and pumpkin displays in full view.
Every year they have fall activities that you can participate in, but we have yet to do so since we’re pretty content with just enjoying the delicious food, stocking up on some orchard favorites and browsing the pumpkins. Our first time we were also under the impression that’s an area primarily for kids, but this time when we went we noticed a few adult groups in there as well and said we’d try it maybe next year.
Speaking of activities, there are so many activities you can partake in such as hayrides, bonfires, mazes and more for a fee! It’s perfect if you’re looking for new pumpkins to adorn your outside porch or if you’re looking for a fun family say that’s great for all ages.
Oh and the donuts? There are no words to adequately describe them, but it’s one of the things that keeps us coming back each year. They’re made fresh to order, so you get them nice and warm from the kitchen. They’re crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. They’re covered in cinnamon sugar, so it tastes a lot like the flavors you would taste when eating an apple pie. In short, they’re incredibly delicious and one of my personal favorites. I don’t eat donuts a whole lot anymore, but there’s rarely if ever a time that I will pass up a cider donut from Milburn’s Orchards. There’s usually a bit of a line, but they move pretty quickly since there’s a separate line for regular lunch food and a line for cider and apple cider donuts.
Our last stop every year is the store. After we’ve enjoyed the orchard, browsed some pumpkins, and enjoyed our donuts, we head into the orchard’s store to look for some items. Sometimes it’s apple cider made in house to-go, other times its cheese made on the farm. Regardless of what we do or do not get, it’s always fun to browse to see what they have there.
What’s your favorite fall tradition or thing to do during the fall season?
