Mother’s Day is coming up and it’s my first one as a mom. There were years that I dreamed of this moment and wondered if I’d ever be able to celebrate as a mother, so this isn’t something that I take for granted. We are so thankful for our daughter and it’s such an honor to be able to celebrate Mother’s Day as a mom. With it being my first one, when I think of what I would want for Mother’s Day, it’s honestly challenging for me to decide. For me, having our daughter is my gift, but the more people talk about it, the more I think that I should be thinking of things I would possibly want for it. Although we are not technically back from our maternity leave on the blog yet and still have quite a few posts scheduled up, I thought I’d pop in for this special occasion as our daughter is napping.
So, consider this post in some ways my own wishlist of items, but also a list of ideas for what you could potentially get the new mom in your life for Mother’s Day – from a new mom’s perspective.
A Mother’s Day Gift Guide for the New Mom (From a New Mom’s Perspective)
MUGS
If the mom in your life is anything like me, I love a good coffee mug. In fact, I have quite the collection of mugs in our kitchen because if I see a cute one or one that reminds me of a particular place in time, I’m probably going to get it. As a new mom who has been wanting to be a mother for a while, I’m super excited about getting “mom” and “mama” mugs. Here are a few that I liked.
MAMA-RELATED CLOTHING & OTHER ITEMS TO WEAR
I haven’t purchased any “Mama” items yet, but I’ve been eyeing a few. I am a sucker for monogrammed items, but I’ve really been saving more personalized items such as crewnecks where you can add your baby’s name, ones that use your baby’s old newborn clothes, and stitch them into a hoodie or t-shirt or personalized jewelry. It’s the sentimentality behind it that makes it something that even as the years go on, they’ll likely want to wear and keep forever.
A GIFT CARD TO THEIR FAVORITE CLOTHING STORE
My body looks different since having a baby, so I’ve had to purchase new clothes that will fit my postpartum body. Having a baby can do a number on your body image – especially if you’ve previously struggled with body image issues, so you often try to purchase clothes that will help you feel confident in your new body, which can get expensive. A gift card to their favorite store may help as they try to build a transitional wardrobe during this time.
SPA GIFT CARD
I would LOVE a massage and I think I speak for all moms who have given birth that it’d be hard to say no to one if someone else paid for it. A full body massage and a facial would be heavenly.
