Annapolis, Maryland has and will always have a special place in the hearts of my husband and I. Not only is it one of our favorite places to visit due to the history in that place, but it’s also where we had our honeymoon.
I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t on board with heading to Annapolis at first.
With our honeymoon landing in the middle of my favorite season, I couldn’t imagine that there would be much to do in a town that’s a hop skip and a jump from the Chesapeake Bay. We couldn’t go fishing, because it would probably be too chilly. We couldn’t go whale watching because all of the boats were in dock for the season.
So what can you do in a town that’s known for it’s cruises, proximity to water, and delectable seafood? Everything would be closed, right?
I have some suggestions for you based on our trips to Annapolis that will give you some fun and inexpensive things to do and places to visit!
MISSION BBQ:
There’s never a bad time to eat barbecue! If you love smoked meats, you’ll love indulging in this place that continues to celebrate the everyday unsung heroes who help our communities.

IRON ROOSTER:
I guarantee that you’ve never had pop-tarts like these! This unique restaurant sells brunch and dinner for reasonable prices! I recently talked about our experiences there on the blog and shared some snapshots of their delicious food, if you’re interested in finding out more about it.

CITY DOCK COFFEE:
For those of you who love good coffee and pastries, you’ll love this local coffee shop. In fact, as a self-proclaimed coffee aficionado, I think they have some of the best coffee in that area! I would recommend their mocha-iced coffee, but their regular coffee is just as delicious.

National Cryptologic Museum:
This was definitely one of the coolest museums we’ve been to. Although it was outside of Annapolis, it’s less than thirty minutes away and has some really impressive artifacts such as the Enigma that the Germans used in World War II. My husband and I were impressed with some of the ways that even the founding fathers of our nation used different codes to communicate certain messages. I would definitely recommend it.
The Annapolis Harbor:
There’s no words to describe it except to say that’s such a beautiful place to sit, relax, and watch the boats arrive to the harbor. If you decide to take one of the cruises along the harbor, you’ll get beautiful views of the fall foliage nestled along it.
The Naval Academy:
If you’ve never been, I would highly implore you to go! Just be sure that you have your ID because they will not allow you inside without it.
Upon beginning the tour, you find out so much about the school, their ethics, and what the students attending the school go through while there. You even got an opportunity to see one of the most stunning chapels in the country! You will be so impressed with their work ethic, their sacrifice, and their dedication to what they do.
Douglass Bannecker Museum:
Did you know that Fredrick Douglass and Benjamin Bannecker had strong ties to Annapolis, Maryland and that even Harriet Tubman has a connection to this area? Well, you’ll learn so much visiting this museum and hearing from the historian on site, (who was anniversary around the same time that we were celebrating our honeymoon).
There’s also a really impressive sanctuary that’s still been preserved after all of these years and shows you the history of nearly every wedding at the church! It was such a nice museum and was very informative!

Historic Annapolis:
This was probably one of my favorite places that we visited our entire trip. So much so, I wrote an entire blog post about it, sharing some of my favorite photographs from our visit there.
Here you get to see what used to be Annapolis’ major town where they did most of their trading. During it’s hay day, there were over 300 people living in the grounds of this historical place. They even have a really beautiful garden that’s just as gorgeous in November as it is in the summer!
Although I was hesitant at first, I am so glad I listened to my now husband and agreed to make Annapolis the place where we’d bask in our newlywed glow.
