Philadelphia has many, many coffee shops and I’ve probably only been to a very small fraction of them. However, in the last few years, we have been working on changing that and expanding outside of our usual go-to spots to try some new places. One of my favorite cafes that I have been to in Philadelphia is Bodhi Coffee.
I used to work for a short time in South Philly and my wife had worked not too far from the neighborhood where Bodhi’s is located. During that time, we used to go there pretty frequently because it was close and a nice spot for us to go to on the weekend when I would visit her or during the weekday. Although Philadelphia is not scarce when it comes to the number of Starbucks, I typically prefer to go out of the way to find a local independent coffee shop. I digress, however.
It is located in an area called Head House Square, between Queen Village and Old City. I think Bodhi Coffee takes care to source high-quality coffee beans and it shows in the quality of the drinks they serve there. I enjoy getting regular coffee from there. While they make good lattes there, I really enjoy their regular coffee as you get to taste how flavorful and rich it is without additional syrups. I like to be able to taste the flavor of the coffee itself and Bodhi never disappoints in making it a flavorful sip each time.

Additionally, their pastries are very tasty. I think Bodhi Coffee was the first place I ever had a chocolate croissant and I have been hooked ever since. I think that might be another reason why it has a special place in my heart. Personally, I think chocolate croissants should be called ovals instead since they are more oval-shaped than crescent-shaped, but that’s beside the point.
If you ever find yourself in Philadelphia, you must try Bodhi Coffee at 410 S 2nd Street. You won’t regret it!
My Recommendation:
Regular dark roast or house blend.
My Wife’s Recommendation:
An iced Mocha Latte with Oat Milk!
