Recently we visited a different coffee shop for the first time because while we love supporting our go-to coffee shops, we thought it would be nice to try something new to us. While we enjoy trying new things, we’re creatures of habit by nature, so it’s very easy for us to fall into routines very quickly. This prompted us to decide this past weekend that we would try something a little different this time around.
Nestled right on the corner of Kirkwood Highway and Tamarack Street is a coffee shop with choices that both the specialty latte lover and the house blend aficionado would love. Legal Grounds, which is both a play on words because of grounded coffee beans and because it’s associated with an actual law firm next door to it, is a convenient place to grab a coffee during the week or as a treat on the weekend.

DECOR
While we did not dine inside of it, the best way I could describe the decor is cozy. It has warm tones mixed with lighter, brighter hues. The coffee counter is a beautiful, distressed wood with granite countertops. On the walls were beautiful photographs taken by a local photographer. While when we went there they were encouraging visitors to dine outside if they chose to, they did have a granite bistro table with wooden chairs and bartop seating available at the time that we went. I look forward to returning when things are hopefully more normal and we can safely enjoy the inside of cafes again.

THE COFFEE:
For the coffee, they have various options for you to chose from. They have specialty lattes that they post on a chalkboard easel and they have your more traditional coffee drinks for those who like to keep it simple. My husband and I opted for the specialty lattes on both days that we went. I had the a Lavender Latte and the Hibiscus Cardamon while my husband got the Apple Caramel and the S’mores Latte.
Both of us loved our drinks and were so impressed with their ability to take flavors that you sometimes wouldn’t traditionally expect in a coffee drink and make it delicious. The Lavender Latte was sweet with a nice soothing after taste. The Hibisicus Cardamon was also sweet, but had a stronger punch to it as the cardamon flavor kicked in with each sip.
My husband describes both his Apple Caramel and S’mores latte as sweet and very delicious.
I can’t recommend the coffee enough and I am personally looking forward to trying some of their other flavors overtime.

DINE IN OR DINE OUT OPTIONS
Visiting coffee shops during this weird time is a unique experience for us because we have chosen not to dine out at restaurants. We strictly order to-go items, so although there was an option to dine at their outside tables, we chose not to. The tables are spaced far apart, though that if you feel comfortable doing so, you could probably do so safely.
If you feel comfortable dining out at the cafe, it seems that they have a good setup for ensuring that you can safely enjoy your coffee and dish.

If you’re currently in or visiting the Delaware region, I’d highly recommend Legal Grounds. They have a little bit of something for everyone and have managed to take unique flavors to pair them together for a fusion of flavor in each sip. This is definitely a coffee shop will be adding to our list of favorites.
