One of the things I learned really quickly when I started looking for maternity clothes was just how expensive they are. In some ways, I feel like it’s similar to the wedding industry, but it seems like the moment you tag “maternity” onto something the price goes up. As much as I don’t have an issue with paying a little more for certain items if they’re good quality, it has been hard for me to rationalize spending $70 for maternity clothes that I can only truly wear during pregnancy and postpartum. Thus, the hunt for affordable maternity clothes began.
In my search so far, I’ve found a couple of stores with items that fit within our budget and so I thought I would share some of those places with you in today’s blog post.
Target:
Target has a line of maternity clothing that may not be as extensive as other places, but it has you covered for a lot of key pieces that would often cost more money. They sell dresses, shirts, jeans, leggings – you name it! Their jeans are reasonably priced at $30, which was a cost I felt comfortable paying for something that can only be worn during pregnancy. Their dresses are also reasonably priced, but they also have items that they sell that are not marketed as maternity items and can easily be worn during pregnancy due to the ruching and other details on it. One of my most-worn dresses right now isn’t a maternity dress, but fits perfectly because of the ruching on the side.
Kindred Maternity:
BooHoo:
BooHoo is a UK-based website that I’ve heard is pretty hit or miss in terms of sizing, but they have a lot of maternity options that look pretty cute! I haven’t purchased from there just yet, but there are a few items I have saved to my cart that I can see myself purchasing. They have quite a few sales on things such as coats, so if you’re pregnant during the cooler months, this might be one place you’d want to look. Just be mindful of the sizing.
ASOS:
ASOS is another UK-based site, that usually can be a bit pricey depending on what your budget is. However, they have an outlet section on their website where the items are pretty reasonably-priced with quite a few of the items being under $40.
Pretty Little Thing:
In the same category of UK-based stores, Pretty Little Thing also has a section of their site dedicated to expecting moms. I’ve found myself browsing their site a few times looking for basic items or things that I don’t mind wearing just for a season. I like that a number of their items are well-fitted and don’t feel matronly, which is something I really want to try to avoid since it doesn’t make me feel confident wearing them. I have been leaning more towards more fitted items that show off my bump – especially when I’m not at work and PTL has quite a few times that fit that mold.
Old Navy:
I was initially hesitant to add them to the list because of the jeans I saw for $54, but Old Navy does have quite a few maternity items that are cheaper than that and are reasonably priced. I’ve found myself taking a gander at some of their dresses and shirts, mainly, but they have a multitude of other things like rompers.
H&M:
H&M has a maternity line named Mama that has quite a few nice basics, casual, and even dressier items that can be worn during pregnancy. I have a few items saved to my wishlist that I intend to purchase as the weather cools down.
