Learn how to make your own minimalist, D.I.Y clothes-pin picture display!
Recently, I realized that I’ve had so much of a reliance on technology when it comes to image sharing. I upload my some of my favorite pictures, forgetting that if one day Instagram decides to shut down or my laptop stops working, I lose every photograph I’ve recently taken.
I save my photography files in different folders as if it’s certain I’ll still have this laptop 10 years from now.
Also, it’s not as convenient to have to hop on the computer and showcase your favorite photographs from a recent trip away during a dinner party.
As a result, I began brainstorming ways to both preserve and share some of our memories for years to come. While I’m not a minimalist, the size of our apartment had me wanting to find something cute, minimal, and something that could be displayed without taking that much space. Something I could easily showcase to guests that we have over.
So, in addition to beginning to start a scrapbook, I made my own simplistic photograph display and am sharing some of those tips for doing the same with you, today!

This DIY is super easy to do, is a quick craft, and only requires a couple of materials!
Before working on the craft, one thing I knew I needed was printed pictures. There were so many beautiful photographs from our wedding that I wanted to upload and print out for us to use for our display.
This is why when Printiki reached out to me regarding an opportunity to find out more information about their service, which prints pictures that you have stored on social media or on your computer, I was thrilled. It was such good timing as I’ve been looking for services online that allow you to print photographs from your computer that don’t cost an arm and a leg.
As someone who’s constantly looking for deals and sales rather than spending my money on the first thing I see, I was really grateful to finally find a service that prints customizable prints without having to spend 60 or more dollars. For example, you can get 20 prints for $8!
I decided to print our photos in the form of “retro prints” with text on them because I liked the look of them and thought it would make the display feel more personalized. We added a bible verse to our photographs because it was also the bible verse that was printed on our programs and it’s a verse that’s very special to us. It’s also the same verse we included on a DIY 8 x 11 poster I made for the wedding. If you’re interested in seeing some tutorials for some of the DIYs made during the wedding, let me know!
Materials
- Printed photographs (I used Printiki)
- String or thin rope
- Clothes pins
- Hammer
- Small nails or push pins
Printiki Instructions (using Printiki)
- If you’re using Printiki, go to www.printiki.com and click on the button that says, “print my photos”
- Once you’re on the Creator page, decide which format you’d like your photos to be printed in. We chose retro prints, but if that’s not your thing, they have regular prints that work just as well!
- For the purpose of this craft, I would recommend square prints as they look the most like instant film photos. However, you’re welcome to use whatever size your heart desires!
- Once you’ve chosen the style and size, choose which photos you would like printed. You can decide whether you want them from your social media accounts or your computer.
- Once chosen, you can begin editing and adding font to it, if you chose.
- Once you add your font, you can head straight to the checkout lane and pay for your photos!
Instructions for DIY Craft:
- Once you’ve acquired your photos, lay out your printed photos along the string to see how many photos you want on a string, where you would like them placed, and how spaced out you would like them from each other. Make sure to leave some room on the ends to be tied later in the DIY.
- After you’ve done that, cut the string.
- Take the photos you’ve chosen, arrange them on the string and clip them using the clothes pins.
- Using the ends that are left over, grab your nail and gently tie the string around the nail. (If you’re using push-pins on a cork board, simply tie a knot place the push pin firmly into the board and through the knot)
- After tightening the knot, take the hammer and gently hammer the nail more than halfway into the wall. Gently pull on the string to make sure it’s firmly in.
- Repeat this process for the other side and you’re done, friend!

It’s quickly become one of my favorite picture displays in our house because it’s unique and simplistic, which is something that my husband and I have tried to go for in regards to our home decor. If you also have a small apartment or home, this is the perfect way to display photographs without taking up too much space.
