Something my husband and I are planning to do more of is host. It’s not something that we’ve done that much in the past, but since we’ve had more people coming over to spend time with us and our daughter, our minds have been spinning with ideas for making some of these visits even more enjoyable for our guests. As I’ve shared in previous posts, we’re really leaning into fall this season and part of that for us will mean getting creative with some of the events we plan for people coming over. In today’s post, we wanted to share some of our ideas for fall-themed parties this season.
Pumpkin Decorating
Nothing says fall like decorating a pumpkin and creating your own Jack-o-Lantern. I’ve done this a couple of times as a kid and it was always very messy, but very fun. While I’m not sure if we end up doing this that we’ll use real pumpkins, I thought it might be fun to use fake ones and simply paint designs on them. For example, we’d purchase a few fake pumpkins, grab some paints, hodge-podge, and some items to keep it from getting too messy and we’d paint our favorite designs on them. The best part is you don’t have to worry about squirrels eating them because they aren’t real and could be utilized in the fall seasons to follow.
Fall-Themed Movie Night
We’ve been talking about having a fall-themed movie night where we set up a few of our favorite fall films from growing up, set out some light bites and snacks, and enjoy.
Pie Baking Night
What is fall without baking pies using seasonal fruits and vegetables? I’ve always wanted to bake an apple pie from scratch and I think it would be a nice bonding activity to be able to bake pies with our guests. We’d buy everyone aprons so that they don’t get their clothes dirty, we’d provide all of the supplies and we’d simply just socialize, drink, bake, and enjoy each other’s company.
Make Your Own Pizza Night
While this isn’t necessarily fall-themed, it’s such a cozy idea and would be one that I think our guests would also enjoy. We’d purchase all of the ingredients and we’d all make personal-sized pizzas. After baking, we’d each get to sample a slice of each other’s pizzas and rate the ones we liked the most.
Fall-Themed Paint and Sip At-Home
I think it might be fun to grab canvasses for each guest, paint, and some paint brushes, and come up with a theme or a reference picture that we should try to recreate or paint. No one that I know of personally are artists, but I think that’s part of the fun as well. None of us would know what we’re doing, but we’d each be trying to either paint a fall-themed photograph to the best of our ability and afterward, we’d share what we painted. I’m thinking maybe it would be something like painting portraits of each other but making it something that’s fall-themed or having sheets of paper with different fall-themed topics/ideas on it and then each person gets to pick one from the hat and has to paint it.
Hocus Pocus Marathon with Themed Foods
I love the idea of having a movie night themed after the film you’re watching. I remember seeing that there’s a theater some place in the world where they theme the food and drinks they offer after the movie you’re watching. It’s such a cool and original concept, that we’d love to recreate in our home for guests and for our daughter growing up. This person came up with an entire dinner menu for Hocus Pocus and I’d love to do something similar! In fact, I think I may end up subscribing to their blog because they’ve come up with so many creative dishes!
