HARVEST HOUSE IN WILMINGTON
Fun fact – my husband and I would frequently visit this quaint cafe in Wilmington for dates when it was called Presto. When we were living in two different states, he’d pick me up and we’d drive over to Delaware where he’s from to grab some coffee and play some board games. In fact, I am sure somewhere buried on my laptop is a collection of photographs we randomly snapped while playing Scattergories over mocha lattes and omelets.
However, about four years ago, Presto shut down and we were a little sad about it, considering that place held so many positive memories for us. Then we heard that they would be reopening after some renovations, so we’d constantly drive past it, peering our heads out the window to try to figure out when or if it would open back up. Little did we know, it would be another couple of years until it finally opened back up, but it would reopen as something else – Harvest House.
We have been trying to come since it opened, but between Korean classes on Saturday and church on Sundays, we’d always just miss it. Each time we’d drive buy it was closed because the hours conflicted with our weekend obligations. But one weekend, we did not have Korean school or anything planned in the morning so we figured we’d take the familiar drive into Wilmington to try Harvest House for the first time.

When we first walked in, the place looked different but still very familiar. The layout was similar in that there was a large counter equipped with fresh food, baked goods, and behind it was a large menu showcasing the delicious dishes they offered. They had their milk and sugar area separate from the counter to keep the lines flowing and there was a refrigerated section which included your kombuchas, orange juices, and pre-packaged healthy snacks.
However, there were some changes that we noticed as well. There was more bar seating than we remembered there being as there’s a bar that goes along the window and acts as a border between where you order and where you can sit. There’s an l-shaped, tufted sofa for you with an array of tables and chairs. The television is angled so that regardless of where you’re seated in the cafe, you can stay abreast of what’s going on in the news or what game is currently playing. There are no board games, but it still has a cozy, friendly feel that we remembered each time we’d visit.
The decor was rustic but modern with clean, white countertops and hints of blue here and there, which is very on-brand with their logo. There were hanging plants above the dining area, potted plants at different areas of the cafe to add a little greenery to the space and cute references to Wilmington, where the cafe is located.

THE COFFEE
We did not get the opportunity to try their food while there because we weren’t hungry, but we did end up getting the chance to try their coffee during our visit. I got an Iced Americano with Oat Milk while my husband opted for Mocha Latte. Yes, if you have a deep affinity for oat milk as much as I have recently, look no further than Harvest House for your oat milk fix.
Being that I got an Americano with a dairy substitute, I added the oat milk myself once my coffee was finished and forgot to ask for room when I ordered it. It gave me a good opportunity to really taste the coffee though before I added anything to it. In my opinion, I thought it tasted pretty good – even without any creamer or sugar to it. The brew I had was acidic and smooth in taste, but if that isn’t your thing, they have a variety of different roasts you can choose from while there.

WOULD YOU GO THERE AGAIN?
I think when our schedule permits I could see ourselves visiting again – especially to sample their food menu. The environment was friendly, the barista was kind and very patient with us as figured out what we wanted to order, and the coffee was good! Realistically speaking, I am not sure how often we’d be able to go because our schedule is pretty packed most weekends, but I think it’s a great place to go if you’re hoping to get some work done or meet up with a friend while getting a bite to eat.
