One of the things currently on our wishlist is to fully furnish our bedroom. Want to know our inspiration for furnishing our bedroom?

Being that our bedroom is probably the closest of all of the rooms to being finished and since some of you voted that you wanted to see more home decor-related posts, I figured I’d give you a peek into what things have been inspiring our bedroom, lately. Whew, that was a mouth-full and possibly a run-on, but allow me to explain what we’re thinking.
Our bedroom has been an interesting room, to say the least. When we were in our apartment, our bedroom wasn’t fully furnished and since we moved it hasn’t been either. In fact, the most furnished my bedroom has ever been since being away from my parents was my very first apartment and that’s because my bedroom was the only space that was “mine.” I had roommates and shared spaces, so I couldn’t really decorate as freely.
Fast forward to our apartment, our bedroom was a bit on the tinier side since we had the third-floor apartment in a Victorian-renovated building, so we had a bed, side-table from my apartment, and a white dresser – that was it. Even then it was more furnished than our home’s bedroom which has literally just had a bed in it for a year.
It’s a storage bed so while there’s dresser space underneath, the dresser that followed us from our former apartment was nestled inside of our middle from. In neither of those apartments did we have a full set, however.
Until recently…
We finally got one, we’re getting it delivered, and since have been working to get it as furnished and complete. While like with many of the rooms in our homes, we may end up desiring to change things up a bit later down the line, it was important for us to find things that felt us for this space and not feel like we were settling on items. So, we’re heading to the drawing board, pinning quite a few bedroom ideas on Pinterest and sharing with you today some of the things we’re thinking about for our space.
VELVET STOOL:
Since one of our sets is a chesser and comes with a sort of built-in vanity, I knew I wanted to get a stool that would match not only the theme of the room we’re going for but the height of the chesser. I’ve been eyeing stools similar to these lately as potential options for it. Just something I can pull up when I’m putting on makeup and slide towards the wall once I’m finished.
CHAISE OR BENCH:
This might be excessive, but I’d love to place a chaise or a bench at the end of the bed. I love the look of them and would love something that’s either blush, blue, or emerald to compliment the colors of the wall where the bed is placed. In terms of functionality, I like the idea of placing it there so we can sit on it when getting dressed in the morning.
I’ve been really into these velvet ones. While I’m considering a color such as these ones, I’m also open to sticking to more blue and green-colored ones as well.
SHELVES:
I’d like to eventually get shelves for the walls in our bedroom. Part of me wanted to originally turn the wall facing our bed into a floor-to-ceiling bookshelf to host some of our favorite books, but part of me felt it would be too much. Instead, I figured some floating shelves here and there would look nice – especially in a similar material as our dresser. Depending on how it looks once we place the art prints, I may decide not to.
FLOOR PLANT:
I’m a sucker for plants, whether faux or real. If it were up to me, we’d have quite a few spaces adorned with them, but ya know – marriage is compromised.
Since our upstairs is probably the least regulated when it comes to temperature since heat rises and it takes our central air the longest to push up to the top, we figured a faux plant would be the best bet. Something we can place on the floor to brighten up space whilst keeping it simple.
DECORATIVE ITEMS:
Our ideas for this, honestly, are a bit vague because while there are particular items I am looking for, most of them are items I haven’t actually seen – just ideas. For example, since Annapolis has such a special place in our hearts, I thought it would be fun to get a replica of a ship or some small trinket to decorate either the end table or the dresser to represent it.
However, we’re also hoping to have some items in there that are just items we thought would fit the space since we don’t want it to completely look like a museum. Little plants here and there with some decorative items added to it. We just would like more items than not that have meaning to us and our relationship.
WALL PRINTS:
Since our bedroom is going to be primarily travel-themed, most of our prints will reflect that. While there may be some of our faces, we’re planning to make it themed around places we’ve visited and had soft spots for. As a result, some of the prints we’re making ourselves from photographs we’ve snapped and others will be purchased.
Like this one we recently purchased that reminds us of sailing in New England. It was our first time doing it and it was really beautiful, but hopefully, it won’t be our last. I also really like the idea of adding some colored prints to complement our blue wall.
I’m also planning to make a couple of artistic prints off of our portrait photographs in hopes of making something unique, but pretty.
NEW WALL SCONCES:
The wall sconces we currently have are ones that when we first moved in, I mentioned wanting to replace. While they were nice to the owner’s original decor, I did not like them very much for what we were going for. We actually ended up purchasing new ones, recently because Home Depot had them for a good price!
RUNNER:
For the space in between the bed and the wall, I’d love to add a runner. I am obsessed with navy and red runners, but also want something that would look nice with the other colors we’re planning to add to the room. I think something like this would be a beautiful way to add some additional color to space without clashing with the room.
WALLPAPER ON THE OTHER WALL:
This is something I’m personally back and forth about. Should we add another accent wall on the opposite side of the bed featuring wallpaper? I like the idea of it as it would add even more color to the room that’s fairly blue and light grey right now. However, I also don’t think I’d want anything permanent that would be more headache than it’s worth to remove if we happen to change our minds.
If we were to actually put one up there, it would definitely have to be a print that’s neutral enough we won’t hate it in a few years. I guess this is one of the primary reasons it’s a big “if” we get it.
TV IN BEDROOM:
I am back and forth about this because while I love the idea of a television in the bedroom for the sake of movie nights or if I want to catch up on a show that Han’s impartial to, I also have accidentally left the tv on too many times as a kiddo to trust myself not to do so as an adult. If we can find a good sale on one we can hang up on the wall and get a good deal for cable through our cable provider, it may be something worth adding eventually.
LAMP FOR THE DRESSER:
So, the dresser will not be on the side of our window. I know, those of you who also do your own makeup is probably aware of the fact that natural light is the best when it comes to doing your makeup. It allows you to see how your makeup will look once outside. However, with the way our windows are currently set up, it would not work – especially since that’s our only source of light and it would block a substantial amount of it. So, we decided that I’d get a lamp for the chesser instead.
Something small, but preferably something gold that will illuminate the space a little.

Ultimately, decorating and furnishing a room can be pricey, but our hope is that we’ll be able to achieve a room that’s ours and fully furnished without being expensive. These are just some ideas we’re aiming for in regards to this space, but we’re excited to share with you what we come up with once it’s done!
