As cliche as it sounds, I’ve always pictured myself as being a mother one day. I’ve always felt this inherent desire to nurture.
Ever since I was young, I’d always jumped at the chance to help my grandmother or my mother take care of my younger cousins. I’d watch them like a hawk, studying them as they took care of them, making mental notes of things that I wanted to also do as a parent.
When they got old enough to visit for extended stays, I’d get excited, helping my mom plan things for us to do. Even as a working adult, I’ve taken off work to spend time with my baby cousin, who I share a birthday with. With my nephew, I’d hop over to my siblings or my mother’s house, even if it was a last-minute thing or even if he was only there for a few hours.
When my husband and I got more serious, I began imagining a future with him. I pictured what exploring and experiencing life with him would be like and naturally, I imagined children in that image as well. I envisioned the little mundane walks through the neighborhood, trips to the local zoo, family dinners, and other kid-friendly places. I thought about getting to experience their first day of school, their first friends, and all of the milestones to reach until adulthood and beyond.
I’d think of all of the little and big moments as a family together.
As you may now know, there were some extremely hard moments along this journey, but praise be to God, we have successfully welcomed a healthy baby into our family. After all of the prayers, the tears, the sacrifices, and the longing, we’re finally parents. The moments leading up to it haven’t always been easy, but experiencing pregnancy with our baby and getting to raise them has been such a blessing and answered prayer. We have been praying for them for a long, long time.
Just a reminder that in hopes of respecting those of you who may not want to read our baby and pregnancy-related content at this time and in hopes of having no limit to how much of it we can share, we’re sharing the full details on our Substack. While we do occasionally share some baby-related posts here, we’re hoping to keep the majority of them on our Substack, if feasible.
