Local Coffee Shops in Philadelphia
As someone who was born and raised in Philadelphia, it’s the city that will always have a special place in my heart. Everything from the food, to the sports fans, to the colleges make Philly well – Philly.
Although Philly is well known for their cheesesteaks (Dalessandro’s is the best in my opinion), I think they have a lot of great, local coffee shops for my fellow self-proclaimed coffee connoisseurs.
If you are traveling to the area or looking for some new coffee places to try out in the Philadelphia area, here are my top choices.
Bodhi’s Coffee Shop:
This coffee shop is my husband’s favorite and one that he talks about wanting to go to all the time when we’d have Saturday’s free and had time to go to the city. I must admit, the coffee is pretty delicious. It’s a small coffee shop located close to front and second street, so it’s close to a lot of the stores and attractions on South Street as well as Penn’s Landing.
Menagerie:
This coffee shop has a special place in my heart because it was one I frequently visited when I used to work nearby. It’s small and has this kind of woodsy, minimalist feel to it, which I love. I mean, who wouldn’t want to drink coffee while sitting on a wood slab with chair legs on it?
Rival Bro’s Coffee Shop:
This coffee shop doesn’t have a bunch of frills when it comes to their coffee because their coffee is good. While I definitely love a speciality drink as much as the next person, I appreciate when shops don’t have tons of drinks to choose from and focus instead of perfecting a few things instead.
Volo Coffeehouse:
If you’re in the Manayunk area and looking for a great cup of coffee, you’ll love this coffee shop! It’s one of our favorites to go to when we want coffee that isn’t from a coffee chain. It’s right on Main Street so it’s close to a lot of shops, so you can sip while you shop!

High Point Cafe:
They have two locations in the Germantown/Mt Airy section of Philadelphia and we’ve been to both. Both are owned by the same parent company and have delicious bites to eat as well as drinks to sip. If you’re looking for a place to get work done, however, I’d recommend the Mt. Airy location on Cresheim since it has WiFi while the other location does not.
Chestnut Hill Coffee Company:
When I’m in Chestnut Hill, I like to grab coffee from this place that also has some of the best hot chocolate, I’ve had.
Uncle Bobbie’s Books:
This place is like a dream because it combines two things that I enjoy – reading and drinking copious amounts of coffee. This coffee shop is located in Germantown and my husband, who’s gone a few times, says it’s one of his favorites as well. They also have different workshops and speakers who come to give presentations there as well. The ambiance there is also really nice!
LA COLOMBE CAFE:
La Colombe is one of those cafes in Philadelphia that while is considered more of a local chain, has roots deep in our city. This coffee shop which started in Philly is one of the best coffee shops in the city. The coffee is always incredible and although most of their locations don’t have as many coffee options, it’s all the more reason to go because you know their coffee is that good.
The Lucky Goat Cafe:
This was honestly my favorite coffee shop to go to when I lived in Brewerytown. It’s quaint, minimalistic, and has great coffee. They have a lot of coffee options to choose from, but so far all of their choices have been good and something we’ve liked. If you’re in the area visiting the Art Museum or just want to go for a short walk, you’ll love this!

United By Blue:
Coffee while also shopping for items and related home decor? Sign me up!
Bluestone Lane:
Coffee is great, but the decor is even better! Maybe it’s because navy blue is one of my favorite colors, but the environment is definitely a place you’d want to go to if you’re looking for good coffee and Instagram worthy shots.
