I‘ve always loved the look of film. I love how moody it looks and how often times they convey a story. I love the nostalgic aspect of film photography as it reminds me of the disposable film cameras I’d purchase as a kid sometimes before I got my first digital camera. Eventually, I’ll end up purchasing a real film camera, but I really wanted to create a preset that provided the look of film without having to spend hundreds of dollars on a new camera. So I did what I commonly do when I’m looking for a particular type of look for our photographs – I created a preset and now I’m sharing this pack of presets with you.
If you’ve been following along with our blog for a while, you’ve probably seen snippets of some of these presets in usage in some of our “Fresh Pressed Edit” posts. I’m so excited to be able to share these with you in our shop and I hope you like them as much as I like using them! Unfortunately, I had to break them up into two packs, since there’s a limit to the number of files you can include in an individual Etsy listing. Let me get into the breakdown of each preset included in the pack and what you can expect from it.
This preset is probably one of my most-used lately as it reminds me a lot of the film you’d get from a disposable Kodak or Fuji film camera. There are highlights of blues, greens, and hints of pink to give the photograph a 90’s/early 2000’s film feel.
This preset is slightly more yellow-tinged, but is very matte, which reminds me of the texture of film photographs when you go to get the developed. There are some green highlights and shadows to make for a creamy, retro color.
This preset is dark, grainy, and perfect for photographs where you’re looking for a darker, moodier film look. If you were to take a photograph without a flash on a disposable camera, this might be the type of image that you’d use when you pick up your images from the film shop. It’s very, very dark, so I’d say it’s perfect for images with a lot of natural light and for shadows.
Hence the name, this preset is very, very matte. The colors aren’t as vibrant and the highlights are a little more muted to mimic the sort of muted matte of certain film. There’s some grain to it to give it just a little bit of moodiness without being as dark as the MOOD preset.
This preset is has some hues of pink in it to give a nice retro, matte look.
By purchasing this preset pack you receive all of the above presets to use in Adobe Lightroom. These presets are compatible with the Lightroom Mobile app. For one price, you’ll get access to all of these to use for your personal or professional photographs.
The plan is to continue with this series in the future and make more film presets for you to use, so be on the lookout for those in the coming months. I hope that you like them!
