Preppy Clothes on a Budget
As I have previously alluded to on this blog in a previous post, I adore the classic preppy style. There’s something so classic and beautiful about it that I feel fits my personality the most. I feel freer since finding my true style identity.
However, as someone who works on an educator’s budget and someone who’s blog typically focuses on sharing preppy styles on a budget to show that you can be stylish without breaking the bank (shoutout to intentional purchases), sometimes I cannot afford to purchase items from some of your more well-known preppy brands.
For example, although I adore pretty much everything Vineyard Vines, Lily Pulitzer, Talbots, and Tuckernuck makes, I can’t always afford to make a purchase from them. Maybe you can’t always splurge on an item from your favorite stores, too and that’s precisely why I am making this post.
Often times there’s an assumption that you cannot dress in preppy or classic styles without spending a lot of money, but I simply disagree. Many times you can find affordable brands that sell items that when styled nicely are still preppy.
If you’re looking for preppy, classic clothes on a budget, here are some of my favorite stores to shop at for preppy clothes.
TARGET
Believe it or not, I’ve found some pretty nice items from Target. While I typically go to Target for all of my accessory and home decor purchases, I’ve found some items that when styled right are really classic and beautiful. Not to mention, they’re pretty affordable when it comes to price, so whenever I purchase a cardigan or a pair of shoes from them, I don’t feel like I am breaking the bank too much.
OLD NAVY:
I LOVE Old Navy and always have. It’s one of my favorite places to shop for everything from jeans to infinity scarves. It’s also a great place to find affordable items that are considered preppy. While Old Navy has pretty affordable items to begin with, the best times to get the most for your buck is when you go on a sale day. I would recommend signing up for the email list or going around the times of major holidays, so you can get awesome deals. For example, when I went Christmas shopping, I found a vest that I’ve been looking to purchase for quite a while and only paid $20 for it!

GAP:
Gap, which is like a sister store to Old Navy, also has a great selection of items that are affordable. I specifically love their button down shirts, cardigans, and sweaters for layering.

J. CREW FACTORY:
I am a frequent J.Crew Factory shopper and I’ve scored the best deals when they have their sales, which is more frequent than you think. Most of my wardrobe probably consists of items from here now due to their great prices. While normally you can find well-priced items on sale at J.Crew, J.Crew Factory has sales on top of their low prices!

LOFT OUTLET:
Speaking of outlets, LOFT is another place I’ve enjoyed shopping at. If you’re looking for LOFT items for a fraction of the price, look into shopping at the LOFT Outlet store!
MARLEY LILY:
Marley Lily is one of my favorite places to go to for monogrammed items. I love their sherpa pullovers and monogrammed loafers, but they have everything from vests to jackets to bags!

NEW YORK AND COMPANY
I love the selection at New York & Company and I often find their selection of items to be really nice. While some of their items can be a bit much for the average educator’s budget, they have some reasonably priced items and great sales! I especially love their earrings and accessories!
