Quite a lot of people love Target, but as an educator, I am convinced that no one loves Target more than teachers. I could be making a pretty grandiose statement here, but judging from the amount of conversations I’ve had with fellow teachers about where we commonly pick things up from and how Target has the cutest things to compliment our classroom decor, it’s probably not too far-fetched.
There’s entire social media accounts dedicated to teachers who love Target. You can even find shirts, mugs, books, and tote bags adorned with phrases referencing the affinity that a lot of teachers have for this store.
But why?
What’s so appealing to teachers about this store? What’s the big deal – right? In this post, I’m going to share with you some of the reasons why teachers dig Target the same way Spongebob digs Krabby Patties.
The Dollar Spot Aisle:
If you’ve ever been to a Target, you probably know exactly what I’m referring to.
It’s normally the first aisle that you see when walking into Target and it’s the one that I personally always make a beeline for when entering. I’ve found gold ampersands, clipboards, chalkboards, chalkboard markers, banners, gift tags, recipe books, and so much more in that space. If you’re a teacher, this is practically one of the best places to stop by to look for things for the classroom. Many teachers have frequented this section of the Target to grab little toys and trinkets for their “reward bins” as well as desk items for themselves. The fact that most of these items are $3 or less makes it all the more tempting.
It’s also the aisle that you’re most likely to hear a teacher say, “I could use this for the classroom – right?”
You can drink coffee as you shop:
Need I say more? Teachers love coffee (or tea), so giving them a venue to grab something to drink and shop for their classroom is a win/win. The day that Target began having cafes inside of their stores was the day that they changed the shopping game. Now when teachers go shopping, they can fuel up before heading to stock up on school supplies.
It’s also where my husband likes to retreat since he doesn’t really like shopping and is an excuse for me to treat myself to an iced caramel macchiato.

The party decor aisle:
Who says that you can’t use party decor in the classroom?
Those pink streamers you’ve seen hanging from the ceiling of a 1st grade classroom? Party aisle.
Oh, and that multi-colored tassel garland your friend has lining her desk to go with her boho-chic themed classroom? Party aisle, also.
You would be surprised how many party items can easily be used in the classroom without it looking gawdy or ill-placed. The party aisle has some items that are so cute and work well in a classroom setting.
For example, I’ve used the paper lanterns and hung them from my ceiling before when I had a larger classroom. I’ve scoured the party aisle for banners to hang around my classroom for areas such as the boards where I displayed their work and on the front of my desk.

The office decor aisle:
If you’re in need of paper trays, pencil holders, and cute tape dispensers shaped like pugs, then you’ll love the office organization aisle. In this aisle, teachers can find everything from file dividers to trendy globes that are covered in chalkboard paint, so you can write on them.
Oh, and don’t get me started on their assortment of sticky notes. Every teacher uses sticky notes.
The Back-to-School selection:
While most of the in-store items for this aisle are geared towards students, teachers frequently pick up items from this aisle, too. I mean, where else could you find adorable ice cream erasers and gold pencil cases?
Organizational bins:
Target has bins on bins on bins. They’re in assorted colors and sizes, which make for perfect storage bins for pencils, pens, expo markers that can fit virtually any classroom theme you’re going for.
