The fall is not only my favorite time of the year, but it’s one of our favorite times of year to travel. One of the best things about living in Pennsylvania is that there are so many places to experience the beauty of the fall season on a budget. Whether it’s riding a horse and buggy along with the beautiful landscapes of Lancaster or enjoying the fall festivals in Peddler’s Village, there’s so much to do.
Being that I’ve grown up in the Delaware Valley all of my life, I’ve had the opportunity to visit quite a few locations around the area for the fall season. It’s one of my favorite things about living in this area of the United States. Between the fall foliage, the festivals, and the delicious seasonal eats, the Northeast is one of the best places, in my opinion, to experience the fall season.
If you’re in the Delaware Valley or planning to visit it sometime soon, here are a few places you might want to check out during the fall season.
Lancaster, PA:
I could not create a list about the best places to visit in the Delaware Valley and not include the Amish paradise that is Lancaster, PA. It’s a beautiful place to visit, but it’s even more beautiful during the fall. There’s an abundance of changing leaves and beautiful landscapes to truly awe you this time of year.
Philadelphia, PA:
Although Philadelphia tends to be at its leaf-changing peakness in late October or early November if you have an opportunity to visit it’s truly a sight to be seen. The changing leaves in the background of historic sites and beautiful skylines is something that’s better seen than explained.

Washington Crossing:
Not only is it a historical site, but it’s really pretty during the fall season. There’s a park that you can walk through while enjoying the historical sites at Washington Crossing and enjoying the cool fall breeze.
New Hope, PA:
One of our favorite places to visit whenever we’re traveling up the Delaware Water Gap is New Hope, PA. It’s the cutest, scenic town on the river with beautiful views of Lambertville and the mountains surrounding it. We love getting the opportunity to experience the beauty of this place during the fall season when the leaves are changing.
The Delaware Water Gap:
Other than Lancaster and Jim Thorpe, this is one of my absolute favorite places to visit this time of year because it’s so scenic. We love going on long drives up the Delaware Water Gap with our favorite podcasts or songs in tow, enjoying the sights. It’s seriously so relaxing and one I would recommend you experience at least once.
Jim Thorpe, PA & Lehigh Gorge:
This area has some of the best views this time of year. The fall foliage blanketing the mountain landscapes and gorges is truly unlike anything you’ve ever seen. The best time to go would be the peak weekend when the leaves are at full display. However, head there early because it is a popular spot this time of year for reasons you’ll understand once you visit.
Pine Creek Gorge:
I have never actually been here, but I’ve heard that during this time of year it is absolutely stunning. If you’re someone who loves to hike or just interested in capturing some unique photographs of Pennsylvania, this seems like a place you would love to see.

Bethlehem, PA:
Bethlehem has some of the prettiest hill views I’ve seen – especially during the fall season. There’s certain spots in Bethelem, including one near their library where you can see some beautiful landscapes during the fall. While some of the best views are on hills, the views are certainly worth it.
